Geez, thanks, Kristina, but I think I’m committed to setting up this overflow/alt event. I think it’ll be good b/c I’m hearing from a bunch of folks (maybe more on the coding/open source side) who didn’t even know what MIMA was. This event will be transparent and live blogged so the MIMA folks can certainly see if this event is meeting some untapped need nobody was aware of.
BTW, I will be at the pre-Summit event. You’re hosting, no?

Sounds to me like this is where the real headway will be made. I’m game though I’d like to keep addressing the gaps where traditional marketing is failing and where digital is picking up the pieces. Seems like a lot of clients don’t exactly get it, agencies are having a hard time communicating it, and what results is a muddy mix of good intention and poor execution.

I don’t wanna start a turf war or anything, but what do you think about hosting it somewhere super close to the MIMA summit? Maybe down at a coffee shop/warehouse space/etc. on washington or nearby? Like any conference, MIMA will have sessions that don’t interest people and they’ll sit out in the lobby or along the river, punching things into their iphones waiting for the next cool session. What if that cool next session was happening at the unsummit?
A few options to consider:
- Meeting space in one of the Dunn Bros on washington
- Wasabi (sushi joint)
- Classrooms at Open book
- Grumpy’s?
some of these may involve ching, but I think there’s still time for underwriters.
Consider maybe like a festival model – if MIMA is the mainstage, we’re the up and coming bands stage. i don’t think we need to have a rigid agenda, but maybe some semblance of when specific topics might be discussed. I’m really looking forward to the smart discussions that will transpire, but I have to admit, i’d be lying if i didn’t say that I’m a little excited at the social experiment side of this.
On a related note, I wanna make a reco for the unsummit – i think the theme should be “learning from our failures,” or something like it. And while MIMA will have plenty of shiny success stories, we provide the real-world case studies of best intentions that didn’t deliver and why. In this, I think we offer something that distinguishes us from MIMA. Through shared suffering comes enlightenment – something like that, yeah?
and what about a call for speakers? Any thoughts on that?

only preference i have on location deals with parking…but i also like the idea of being an alternate track for the folks stretching their legs from MIMA. then again, not sure how many ppl are going to bail on a paid event to see what you’ve all duct-taped together
i dig the reco – “learning from our failures.” i’ll have a couple things to share on that note, for sure. if nothing else, i’m a huge advocate of the case study format; the discussion that follows is invaluable, at least in most cases.
i’d be willing to speak on either web analytics (gathering BI from teh logz) or putting my entrepreneurship degree to use and talking about business plans, sizing markets, marketing strategies, etc.

Would be interested in seeing how the two events (or, event and unevent) can relate – with live blogs, ustreams, etc. Like that it’s the unSummit vs. the antiSummit ; would like to hear feedback about what the unSummit participants are not getting from MIMA (aside from an availiable registration slot; being addressed for next year). Thanks for bringing MIMA to the attention of others. Wish I could attend the full unSummit, but I’ve got, um, a commitment. Maybe I’ll slip out during breaks.
