I'll bet there are at least two PR departments breaking a sweat after
Boing Boing (#5 blog on the planet with traffic in the bajillions) posted a couple of corporate takedowns today. One concerned Midwest airlines' hamfisted handling of a customer complaint. The other, a bit weightier: Siemens' profitable relationship with the Nazis during the 30s and 40s.
Either way, it's an example of how a popular and credible blog can rake muck to great effect. Some might recall all the trouble that Boing Boing gave Sony regarding its arguably malicious rootkit software, which would secretly install itself on any computer that played a Sony music CD. Twelve days after Boing Boing blew the whistle, Sony was forced to announce it was removing the software from future CD releases. (Great
timeline here)
Of course, there's not much the Siemens volks can do at this point, but Midwest would do well to repent and hope that BoingBoing carries news of their makegood attempts.
