Gracious professionalism

Business, Lifestyle

Lego, uploaded by .eti. I signed up to coach my son's team in the FIRST Lego League, a Lego robotics competition founded by Dean Kamen of Segway fame. Besides all the cool Lego parts, sensors and servos, I was impressed with the league's values, which are reviewed with the kids as the first order of business:
  • Respect each other in the best spirit of teamwork
  • Behave with courtesy and compassion for others at all times
  • Honor the spirit of friendly competition
  • Act with integrity
  • Demonstrate gracious professionalism
  • Encourage others to adopt these values
I wasn't familiar with the concept of "gracious professionalism," which is explained nicely on the FIRST site, but it immediately resonated with me. And I realized that certain projects in the past really stand out in my memory as being successful and enjoyable, not because of any awards or financial gain, but because these values were in play.
